FAQs
What exactly do you do at in rocketry club?
Our main goal within the rocketry club is to design a rocket which will then be used in two main competitions: Spaceport America Cup (New Mexico, USA) and Launch Canada (Ontario, Canada). Our goal for the rocket tends to be reaching a certain height as estimated by our simulations of the rockets flights. The past couple years we have aimed for a nominal flight which reaches 3 km (10000 ft).
Do you hire first years?
We absolutely hire first years. Our club believes that everyone with an interest and passion in rocketry has the potential to learn and develop their skills along with the rest of the rocketry community. The main thing our club looks for in first year students is interest and a drive to contribute as well as learn about what we do in better detail.
Can I join if I am not enrolled in engineering?
Although most of us are engineers, being enrolled in an engineering program is not a requirement or necessity for joining the McMaster rocketry club. We are a multi-disciplinary team, meaning that we generally are fine with accepting students from other disciplines (for example the sciences or in the case of marketing business students). This also applies to other programs within the engineering faculty (Btech, Computer Science, iBioMed)
When do applications traditionally open up?
While the date of the application open may vary, we usually open it up sometime in early September (usually in the first week) and keep it open for approximately two weeks. We will announce the day applications open on our instagram.
