Precsion Measuring Technology.
A special project run by the Avionics sub-team, measuring strain (relative deformation) on the rocket during flight using strain gauges.
Named after Oezys, the greek god of stress, which we admit is a bit of a stretch to call a strain gauge controller board.
Double the measurements. Built for reliability.
2 Boards, 16 Gauges
54mm x 54mm
Powerful. Compact. Bold.
On select sections of the rocket, small strain gauges are set to measure how parts deform as the rocket accelerates and reaches apogee.
Ozys was built to further the team’s understanding of how various materials, such as carbon fibre, steel, and fibreglass, preform during flight.
The strain gauges the board uses are tiny wires that run in a zig-zag pattern. As the parts deform, the strain gauges change length and resistance, causing a varying voltage measured by the board.
A previous design, OZYS V1, was scheduled for flight on Luminis at SAC 2024, but unfortunately didn’t fly.
OZYS V1 was the primary test for the behind-the-scenes research, while OZYS V2 is the polished design.
Flown on Luminis V2.
Unfortunately, due to a longer recovery, the data was lost.
